Treatment Consent & Disclaimer Policy

K-Flow Therapy

Last updated: January 2026

At K-Flow Therapy, client safety, transparency, and informed consent are essential.
This policy explains the nature of treatment, possible responses and risks, and the responsibilities of both the client and the practitioner.

By booking and receiving treatment, you acknowledge and agree to the following.

1. Nature of Treatment

Treatments at K-Flow Therapy include remedial massage, sports massage, myotherapy-based techniques, dry needling (where applicable), and other manual therapy techniques.

  • Treatments are intended to support pain management, movement, recovery, and function.

  • Results vary between individuals, and no specific outcome, cure, or guarantee is provided.

  • Treatment is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, medical treatment, or emergency care.

2. Informed Consent

Before treatment, clients are required to:

  • provide accurate and complete health information, and

  • inform the practitioner of any relevant medical conditions, injuries, medications, or changes in health status.

You understand that:

  • incomplete or inaccurate information may affect treatment safety or outcomes, and

  • you may withdraw consent or request treatment to stop at any time.

3. Treatment Techniques & Sensations

Treatment may involve techniques such as deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, stretching, joint-related manual techniques, and dry needling.

During treatment, you may experience:

  • pressure, discomfort, or sensitivity, and

  • sensations that may feel intense but remain within professional and safe limits.

You are encouraged to communicate during treatment if:

  • pressure feels excessive,

  • you feel uncomfortable, or

  • you wish to modify or stop the treatment.

4. Post-Treatment Response & Discomfort

Massage and myotherapy treatments may result in temporary post-treatment responses, including:

  • soreness or tenderness

  • stiffness

  • fatigue

  • mild bruising

  • temporary increase in symptoms

These responses are known and normal for some clients, particularly after deep tissue work, dry needling, or treatment of long-standing or sensitive conditions.

  • Individual responses vary depending on health history, tissue sensitivity, and current condition.

  • Temporary discomfort does not indicate incorrect treatment or negligence.

Treatment fees apply to the service provided at the time of the appointment, regardless of individual post-treatment responses.
Post-treatment soreness or discomfort is not grounds for a refund.

5. Adverse Reactions, Dry Needling Risks & Contact Procedure

Some treatment techniques, including dry needling, carry rare but known risks.
In very rare cases, this may include adverse reactions such as pneumothorax (collapsed lung) or other unexpected symptoms.

While all reasonable care and professional standards are followed, no manual therapy is completely risk-free.

If you experience:

  • worsening symptoms after treatment,

  • new or unusual symptoms, or

  • any concerning changes in your condition,

you are encouraged to contact K-Flow Therapy as soon as possible by phone or email.

Upon contact, the clinic will:

  • provide guidance on appropriate next steps, and

  • advise whether medical review (such as seeing a GP or attending urgent care) is recommended.

K-Flow Therapy does not provide medical diagnosis, and medical assessment may be required to determine the cause of symptoms.

Prompt communication allows concerns to be managed appropriately and supports client safety.

6. Medical Review, Liability & Insurance

If post-treatment symptoms persist or cause concern, clients may seek assessment from a general practitioner (GP) or appropriate medical professional.

K-Flow Therapy:

  • does not assess or diagnose medical conditions beyond its scope of practice, and

  • relies on medical assessment where required.

In the event of a formal concern or complaint regarding treatment:

  • medical documentation may be required, and

  • clinical records from K-Flow Therapy may be used as supporting documentation for professional or liability insurance processes, where applicable.

Post-treatment discomfort or symptom changes alone do not automatically indicate incorrect treatment, negligence, or liability.

7. Aftercare & Communication

Clients are encouraged to:

  • follow any aftercare advice provided, and

  • contact the clinic with questions or concerns following treatment.

If severe, unusual, or worsening symptoms occur, appropriate medical attention should be sought.

8. Client Responsibility

Clients are responsible for:

  • attending appointments in a suitable physical and mental state for treatment,

  • communicating discomfort, concerns, or changes during treatment, and

  • advising the practitioner of any relevant changes in health status.

9. Practitioner Responsibility

Practitioners at K-Flow Therapy:

  • operate within their professional scope of practice,

  • apply techniques based on the information provided, and

  • prioritise client safety and professional standards at all times.

10. Dry Needling Explanation & Verbal Consent

Prior to performing dry needling, the practitioner may:

  • explain the nature of dry needling,

  • outline potential benefits and known risks, and

  • answer any questions the client may have.

Consent for dry needling may be obtained verbally.

Where verbal consent is given:

  • the practitioner will record this consent in the clinical treatment notes, and

  • the client may withdraw consent at any time before or during the procedure.

Dry needling will not be performed without client consent.

11. Acknowledgement

By booking and receiving treatment at K-Flow Therapy, you acknowledge that:

  • you have read and understood this policy,

  • you have had the opportunity to ask questions, and

  • you voluntarily consent to treatment under these terms.
